5 Items That Are Always Welcome as Donations at ProjectKindness

5 Items That Are Always Welcome as Donations at ProjectKindness

It’s difficult sometimes to know how to help. As a registered charity, we interact with Sydney’s most disadvantaged people on a daily basis, offering support and kindness however we can and listening to their stories. This puts us in a great position to help donors understand exactly what items are needed most. Rather than blindly giving, you can refer to this list and provide tailored support to our Kindness Recipients and their families year-round. Of course, we always welcome monetary donations via our website, but now that we are set up in our Kindness Hub, we’re more equipped with storage space for tangible items as well. Thank you and please reach out if you have any questions at all. So, here are 5 donation ideas that we are always greatly appreciative to receive…

1. Bedding

Blankets, sheets, pillowcases, pillows, and other forms of bedding are always included in our Home Hampers. When a Kindness Recipient enters housing after sleeping rough, they often have little or no possessions, so we aim to provide bedding as a priority so they can first feel warm and comfortable, especially in the cold winter months, something they may not have felt for a long time.

2. Kitchen utensils

Another set of items that are often a luxury for people living below the poverty line are quality kitchen utensils. Pots, pans, cutlery, plates, bowls, cooking sets – all of these together can add up to quite a big expense for people who have recently entered housing and/or struggling to make ends meet. A donation of kitchen utensils allows families the freedom to prepare and cook their own meals together – a beautiful bonding experience that is often taken for granted.

3. Kitchen appliances

How much easier does life feel when you have a toaster, a microwave, and a kettle? These basic kitchen appliances are a staple in most homes for good reason, so we want to help our Kindness Recipients access them as soon as possible.

4. Toiletries

Not having to worry about whether you can afford toilet paper, feminine hygiene products, soap, shampoo and conditioner, tissues, deodorant, and other basic toiletries is a privilege our Kindness Recipients aren’t often afforded prior to securing housing. These items can be quite costly, so we aim to help cover these expenses by including them in our Home Hampers and offering them at our Outreach Van.

5. Baby, infant, and children’s clothing

The experiences children have in their earliest years go on to shape the rest of their lives. It is so important that we prioritise care, kindness, and dignity for our littlest Kindness Recipients. Not only clothing, but books, toys, and other childhood neccessities are always, always welcome. The more we can support disadvantaged kids, the more we’re setting the foundation of a kinder future for them and their communities.

How can I donate items to ProjectKindness?

Great question! Simply send an email to bekind@projectkindness.com.au if you’d like to make a donation and we’ll guide you through the process.

Please note that all item donations must be new and unopened. Our Kindness Recipients have been through so much – they deserve as much dignity and respect as we can offer.

Thank you for your wonderful support!
