Sydney's Newest Community Outreach Service by ProjectKindness

Have you seen our latest initiative? We’ve started our very own community outreach program! As often as we can, we fill the trusty ProjectKindness van with kindness hampers and donated items, then we set up shop in a Sydney neighbourhood for a few hours to connect with and help as many disadvantaged community members as we can. Not sure what a community outreach program is or how it benefits your community? Read on to find out…

What is a community outreach program?

A community outreach program is often created by charities, organisations, or volunteers to help connect services, support, or resources with people who may not otherwise have or know how to access them.

They focus on helping disadvantaged groups and vulnerable community members who may be dealing with homelessness, unemployment, domestic abuse, social isolation, poverty, and other similar circumstances.

An outreach program will aim to meet these people where they are – out in the community – rather than waiting for people to come to them. It’s all about making help accessible.

At their core, community outreach programs are about empathy, empowerment, and creating lasting positive change.

What are the benefits of a community outreach program?

A community outreach service can have significant benefits for the community it serves, not just the individuals who visit it.

It can help build trust, improve access to resources, and create opportunities for personal growth and independence for people with very little other support.

On a broader scale, outreach programs can strengthen community connections, raise awareness about social issues, and encourage volunteering.

Ultimately, they promote fairness, compassion, and resilience, contributing to a safer, more inclusive, and supportive society for everyone.

How can I visit the ProjectKindness community outreach service?

Our schedule varies depending on volunteer availability, but you can generally find us on Thursdays at around 4:30pm outside the Marion building in Waterloo. Please contact us for more information or to confirm whether we will be there on a specific date. All are welcome!

So, if you see our van parked in your neighbourhood, don’t be afraid to come over and say ‘Hi!’ or if you’re like our Kindness Recipients and need a helping hand, please come over and ask. We would love to have a chat with you to see how we can help, whether it be a new pair of shoes, a blanket, some food, or just a kind conversation. If you’re in need of donated items but can’t make it to an outreach location, you can also visit one of our Kindness Cupboards.

See you out and about, Sydney!
