Chloe was stuck between a rock and a hard place. The rock was her home that had tragically burned down after a house fire struck. The hard place was the city and streets she found herself lost in, having nowhere else to go.
At just 21 years of age, this sweet, young girl was facing homelessness and fleeing domestic violence at the hands of her ex, all the while grieving the death of her mother who had passed just 3 years prior.
She wandered the streets for weeks, living out of a single backpack with just her ID, mobile phone, and a pair of her mother’s gloves that she swore she would never lose or sell. They were the only things she had left to remember her by.
Chloe was finally able to secure emergency social housing and was referred to ProjectKindness by a wonderful domestic violence liaison officer who saw just how desperate Chloe was to find herself a home again. All she wanted was a place to escape the cold, harsh streets. A place to help her find hope again.
So, we did what we do best. We sourced homewares, bedding, groceries and appliances from the wonderful Sydney community. It was astounding to see how everyone pulled together to help Chloe through this traumatic piece of her life.
We are absolutely stoked to see her thriving in her new home. She is currently studying counselling with hopes of becoming a domestic violence counsellor in order to help people find safety and make it through the rough patches in their lives.
It just goes to show that a little bit of kindness can completely transform a life. This is why we do what we do.
